We’re ready for the water this summer

We took the kids to the gym pool yesterday and swim to finish off our day. It’s fun to see Kaitlyn’s personality come out when she plays in the water. She was very hyper and never once complained or gave  a sour face.  We look forward to this summer’s swimming and other water-based extravaganzas.

Another adventure in water for the day were water balloons. We purchased some for the kids not an hour goes by without the kids begging to have one filled up or for us to help them tie one.  Tyler enjoyed breaking water balloons over the neighbor’s head.

Memorial Day Fun

For memorial day, we invited a few friends over to BBQ, play some whiffle ball, and of course let the kids play.  The weather could have been a little better, but the food was good and we enjoyed ourselves as did the kids.  We setup the slip-n-slide for the first time ever and even though we didn’t have a hill, they still enjoyed it!  When shopping for food and drinks, I always like to ensure that there’s extra as I hate it when we run out of an item or there’s not enough of something.  Sure enough when everything was over, we had no less than 48 soda’s left over,  a tub of cookies, plenty of side-dishes, and enough hamburgers to throw another party.  But I like it this way.

Prior to the afternoon festivities, Tyler was involved in an incident with the neighborhood 12-13 year old boys.  He was standing in the street watching them play whiffle ball when he was struck in the stomach with the ball.  He came running in crying and when Lindsey confronted the boys about it, they were all but apologetic as they were laughing at the matter.  Lindsey even lifted up Tyler’s shirt to show them the huge welt the ball had left behind hoping this would help them realize this wasn’t funny at all.

Tyler has recovered but I don’t think we have.  The reaction to the incident is what was unsettling especially because the welt it left behind lasted for 2 days, but nevertheless life goes on.

Enjoying the Weather

I had Tyler help me pull weeds and everytime I do, I vividly recall my grandpa always encouraging me to “go pull weeds outside” if I was “sooooooo bored”.  I never followed through with his suggestions but now understand the importance of weed pulling.  Tyler hasn’t yet realized it’s not all that fun – infact, he looks forward to it because he gets to wear gloves and follow me around.

After we were done pulling weeds, the kids played together in their power wheel.  After driving Tyler around, Kaitlyn drove solo and really seemed to enjoy today more than ever.  I’m not sure why either.  My guess is every time she turned and drove past our home, she was pleased with the weed-pulling job Tyler and I had just finished.

Dollhouse

Today we pulled out Lindsey’s dollhouse from when she was younger and the kids painted it Kaitlyn’s color of choice – purple.  Kaitlyn really enjoyed being able to paint whatever  and however she wanted.  Tyler kept trying to paint everything but the sides purple even though we were hoping to save the roof and keep it it’s natural color or paint it white.  The colors aren’t really a natural choice, but they are appealing to the kids especially since they picked them out themselves.

Hopefully we’ll finish painting and cleaning it soon after which we’ll place all the furniture inside.

Last day of work

I have taken on a new job where I will no longer have to deal with a 2 hour daily commute.  No longer will it be such an effort for Lindsey and the kids to visit me in the office once a week.  My new daily commute time is 2 minutes and I couldn’t be happier.

Tyler isn’t happy about this new change though as there were times where after Lindsey and the kids would visit me in the office, Tyler would stay with me and ride the light rail home. He looked forward to this every week and it was always fun to watch how excited he would get when riding it home with me. Well to celebrate my last day riding light rail and commuting, we all rode the final train home together and video taped it.

In order to maximize our dental PPO before switching jobs, we took everyone in to see the dentist.  Tyler did very well and has no cavities which is a good thing.  I’ve been seeing the dentist regularly as I have a couple cavities and a root canal to finish up, so my visits aren’t quite as enjoyable as theirs were.

Getting ready to board the last lightrail forever.

Waving goodbye to the lightrail forever.
